This significant investment marks a major step forward in delivering modern, accessible facilities for our community, while supporting our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.
As we approach this exciting new chapter for Broadmeadow, here’s a reminder of what you can look forward to:
Refurbishment Highlights
-
Relocated Reception Entrance: The main entrance has been moved to the car park side of the building, greatly improving accessibility for all customers.
-
Studio Expansion: Both upstairs studios have been extended and a brand-new studio has been added downstairs, allowing us to expand our timetable and offer more classes.
-
Gym Improvements: The gym area has been extended and fitted with new, modern equipment, providing an improved experience for both new and returning members.
-
Squash: The squash court will reopen with the rest of the centre but will need to close again at a later date for further refurbishment.
-
Sauna: To ensure there’s no delay to the reopening of the facility, the sauna will remain closed while additional works are completed.
-
Sports Hall: The sports hall has been reconfigured to a standard full-size 4-court layout, making space for the expanded gym and studio facilities.
-
Changing Facilities: Changing areas have been fully refurbished, maintaining single-sex provision while introducing a new village changing area, improving flexibility for families and groups.
Decarbonisation Works
This refurbishment is also an important milestone in our ambition to operate more sustainably and support local climate campaigns. The decarbonisation works include:
-
Replacement of gas consumption equivalent to 23 homes with low-carbon heating solutions.
-
Removal of gas-fired boilers and installation of high-efficiency air source heat pumps.
-
A fabric-first approach, with insulation added to walls and roofs to reduce heat loss.
-
Replacement of windows with double glazing, reducing excess solar gain while preserving views of the Teign Estuary.
-
Improved air tightness and new heat recovery ventilation systems to provide fresh air throughout the building.
-
LED lighting installed throughout to create bright, welcoming spaces.
-
The building is now fully electric, maximising the benefit of our rooftop solar panels.
-
Room by room temperature controls provide optimal conditions for every space, ensuring comfort for all visitors
We hope these changes will enhance your experience and improve the working environment for our staff.
